Character Theme: Gray Warrior (Part 2 of 2)

The gray warriors are as much legend as fact in the eyes of the common people. Shadow warriors, assassins, and spies, gray warriors are sought by noble houses in times of war to assassinate enemy generals and sabotage enemy defenses. In times of peace, nobles employ them as spies and assassins to ensure that they always have the upper hand. In the first part of this article series, you read about the features of this theme. Now you can see the optional powers for it!

Optional Powers

Level 2 Utility Power

A gray warrior learns that a well-placed burning arrow or a swiftly applied poison can be the difference between success and failure in a mission. You have mastered the use of the alchemical tools at your disposal in dangerous situations.

Practice has made your hands swift and sure at applying your clan’s favorite alchemical items to your weapons.

Encounter Shadow

Free Action         Personal

Effect: You apply an alchemical item with the poison keyword to your melee weapon or one piece of your ammunition. If, instead, you use an alchemical item without applying it to your weapon, you gain a +1 power bonus per tier to your next attack roll that uses that item if you use it before the end of your turn.

Level 6 Utility Power

As a gray warrior, you are a shadow in the eyes of your enemies, and, like a shadow, you flee before your foe’s onslaught.

As your enemy strikes, you fade into shadows only to reappear out of your foes’ reach.

Daily Shadow, Teleportation

Immediate Interrupt      Personal

Trigger: An enemy adjacent to you hits you.

Effect: You teleport up to 2 squares.

Level 10 Utility Power

Gray warriors know secrets of shadow that few others learn, and your dedication to your clan has allowed you to learn the first of those secrets from a master.

With a gesture, you cut the seals of shadow and infuse yourself with power.

Daily Shadow

Free Action     Personal

Trigger: You spend a healing surge.

Effect: When you spend a healing surge, you also gain temporary hit points equal to one-half your level, and you gain a +2 power bonus to all defenses until the end of your next turn. In addition, until the end of your next turn, your attacks gain the shadow keyword, and the first creature you hit after using this power is immobilized until the end of that creature’s next turn.

  1. Six years later, I’m still playing 4e, ha ha! Your character themes are top notch. I definitely want to add this and your Mountain Priest as options in my games. Thanks!
