Archery Styles (Part 4)

Archery Styles (Part 4)

ArcherA character who favors ranged attacks has many ways to master the bow, and the schools presented in this article series give you some interesting options to round out your player character. This week, we present another school of archery styles by Rich Redman. The firstsecond, and third parts are available, too.

Order of the Warbow

Variations of the Order of the Warbow appear in many nations that depend on archers as key components of their military. In such countries, practicing archery is often a legal requirement for members of the lower class who are ages 15-60. Not all military archers belong to the order, though. Only a few demonstrate sufficient skill to earn membership in the order.

Lore

You can make a Knowledge (local) check to learn about the Order of the Warbow.

10            The order trains elite military archers to enhance their battlefield skills.
15            Students of this order focus on controlling areas of the battlefield.
20            Practitioners of this order often hold military rank with appropriate allies and resources.

Secret Techniques

Character Level Prerequisites Secret Technique

7 Line shot 15 ft.
9 Improved Initiative Line shot 20 ft.

13 Rapid Shot Cone shot 20 ft.
15 Burst shot 10 ft.
17 Manyshot Burst shot 15 ft.
19 Controlled area of effect, improved staggering shot

Burst Shot (Ex): As a standard action, you can make a ranged attack that affects all targets (allies and enemies) within the indicated radius. Make separate attack rolls for each target, but roll damage once. If you confirm a critical hit against any target, roll additional damage separately for that target. You fire a number of arrows equal to the targets in the burst +4.

Cone Shot (Ex): As burst shot, but your attack affects all targets in a cone of the indicated size. The cone starts adjacent to you.

Controlled Area of Effect (Ex): Your burst shots, cone shots, and line shots no longer affect allies (unless you want them to).

Improved Staggering Shot (Ex): When you make a ranged attack, all targets that take damage from that attack are staggered. Each round, a target staggered by this ability can make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 20 + your BAB). If the target succeeds, the condition ends.

Line Shot (Ex): You shoot through multiple characters. Your arrows affect all targets in a line of the indicated length (allies and enemies) when you make a ranged attack. The line must begin in a square adjacent to you. This ranged attack does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Staggering Shot (Ex): When you make a ranged attack, any one target struck by that attack is staggered until the end of your next turn.
