Rogue’s Gallery: Maebe Dworhel

Maebe stands barely taller than a dwarf, her leathery skin stretched tightly over her skeleton like taught hide on a drying frame. Her ram-like horns have been filed to mere stumps, and her eyes are black pits that evince no mercy or pity.

Banished. After her trial, a perfunctory affair performed for the entertainment of the court, Maebe was exiled from Corremel, City of Lanterns, for the crime of smirking at the Black Prince while he was wearing violet-and-apricot-striped hose. Stunned at how quickly the verdict was reached, she barely had time to gasp before the bailiff dragged her away from the courtroom, hustled her down a hallway, and thrust her through a door onto the shadow road leading to Corremel, City of Ale.

Walking in the Dark. Maebe couldn’t say how long she wandered the path in a daze, but at some point, she took a wrong turn and then the wrong exit and ended up stranded in the Underworld. Before she had time to become frantic at her plight, she stumbled upon a lone figure in the lightless tunnels. The pair walked together, stopping only when Maebe needed to sleep. Growing hungrier by the day, Maebe grew desperate for food, but her companion explained he could teach her to go without nourishment indefinitely. He also promised to teach her how to get vengeance on the lords of the shadow fey for expelling her.

Hungry for Revenge. After Maebe’s companion taught her how to use her body as a weapon, she allowed him to transform her into what he was: one of the People. She has long since left him and travels both the surface of Midgard and the Underworld, gathering allies, increasing in skill and knowledge, and preparing to return to the Shadow Realm to finally have her justice.
