When adventurers enter a library filled with musical notation, instruments, and more, they might discover some extraordinary items or take part in unusual experiences. You can roll randomly for a result below, or use the handy number provided with each entry to figure out your result on a d12. You can also pick the one that works for the area in which your characters currently linger.
d12. Curiosity
- The chorus of voices raised in song that greets you is in a language that—for a second—is unknown to you but that you suddenly understand moments later.
- Each scroll in the rack pings out a specific musical note when it is picked up.
- The alcove where two students are practicing silences their music outside the alcove, but you can see what the music is describing on a blank canvas behind them. The scene depicted teases at your memory.
- You hear the music being played in this small conservatory off the library in your mind. It haunts you for 1d8 weeks after you hear it.
- A stand with musical notation scrawled on paper upon it turns pages for you.
- The collection of stringed instruments on the wall tune themselves each morning.
- A person playing a fife sends colorful visual notes into the air. When they hit something, they pop like soap bubbles and release their note.
- This dark and gloomy corner of the room contains wall hangings that depict gods of death and destruction. A faint dirge coming from nowhere detectable causes the skeleton in the corner to dance and clatter.
- This sun-dappled area of the library contains prisms galore! As the sun moves across the prisms, the notes they softly hum change. It seems to be a sort of colorful musical clock!
- A statue to a well-known bard has eyes that follow you wherever you go. You can never rid yourself of the sense of being stared at for your duration in this library.
- Someone’s crumpled attempt at a piece for four wind instruments has blood spattered upon it. The name of the piece: “Calling Upon the Four Winds” Under those words, in very small and spidery print: “…to Destroy the One I Hate Most.”
- This musical library has pixies watching you from every nook and cranny. They look happy, though they all carry sharp weapons, which they play with as you wander the area.
I really liked this list Miranda!
