Rogue’s Gallery: Tam Waltzing

Despite being fair of feature, dark of hair, and sharp of eye, Tam Waltzing is only noticed by people who specifically seek him. There is a shadowy, insubstantial quality to him, as though he is a mere silhouette of a man rather than a complete being.

Inhospitable and Alone. Like every member of his family stretching back untold generations, Tam served the lords and ladies of the Fadinglea family. When the elders of the family joined the Great Retreat, the service of their courtfolk was transferred to the elfmarked members left behind in the Arbonesse who quickly freed them of their vows of servitude and departed for the south. The Waltzing clan was stung by their abandonment but endured and sought their fortunes in Zobeck. It didn’t take long for Tam to realize his new shadow fey patrons saw him and his as little more than slaves, so he murdered them and disappeared into the Cartways, taking nothing but his clothing and a family heirloom with him.

Freedom or Death. Once he established a home for himself beneath the city, Tam sought out others of his kind to join the revolution he convinced himself was needed to free the courtfolk from those who held them in the yoke of servitude. He now has a small cadre, mostly of young courtfolk halflings and disenfranchised kobolds, with whom he strikes against Zobeck’s shadow fey and their interests. A number of arsons and vicious murders have been attributed to the group, but their political message has gone unnoticed as the authorities see them as a gang of thugs and killers rather than the group of freedom fighters Tam envisions.

Characteristics

Personality Trait. It’s time for my fellows to wake up and be taken advantage of no longer.

Ideal. What’s the point of helping anyone when we’ve been discarded? Our existence is an elven joke.

Bond. I can’t read the inscription on this odd elven ring, but it’s all I have left of my family and our history of loyal service.

Flaw. I know what’s best for everyone, and they’d all be better off if they’d follow my advice.
