Cranberry Ooze

Cranberry Ooze

Photo courtesy of Jem Stone from ChaileyThe result of alchemical experimentation by insane arcanists with a penchant for oozes and jellied fruits, the cranberry ooze has a deep maroon color, with bits of fruit peel, pit stones, and the yet-undissolved parts of unfortunate victims still suspended within its form.

When I first saw one such monstrosity, it crept along the floor toward me, and I heard a distinct sucking noise. Then, without warning, a second identical ooze fell from the ceiling on my companion. His armor sizzled as it wrapped around him and he scraped at it wildly with his axe.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Acid (Ex): A cranberry ooze secretes a digestive acid that dissolves only flesh (not bone) when it strikes a foe—creatures not made of flesh (including most constructs and oozes, skeletal undead, plants, and incorporeal creatures) are immune to the cranberry ooze’s acid damage.
Pit Stone (Ex): A cranberry ooze has numerous, large pit stones suspended in its body from some of the fruits boiled in its creation. It can fire these at creatures within range of its blindsight.
Split (Ex): Slashing weapons, piercing weapons, and electricity attacks deal no damage to a cranberry ooze. Instead the creature splits into two identical oozes, each with half of the original creature’s current hit point total, rounded down. A cranberry ooze with 10 hit points or fewer cannot be further split and dies if reduced to 0 hit points.
Suction (Ex): The cranberry ooze can create powerful suction against any surface as it climbs, allowing it to cling to inverted surfaces with ease. A cranberry ooze can establish or release suction as a swift action, and as long as it is using suction, it moves at half speed. Because of the suction, a cranberry ooze’s CMD score gets a +10 circumstance bonus to resist bull rush, awesome blows, and other attacks and effects that attempt to physically move it from its location.

  1. Hahahahaha! Nice, Ben. I love the pit stones. I can just see one of these pucker up and spit the stone toward some unsuspecting adventurers.

  2. I want to see a guacamole based monster, spell or item from you Ben. I remember that you’re something of an expert on that food.

  3. Also in race circumstances, A Cranberry Ooze can be absorbed by a Gelatinous Cube which cause both creatures to mutate into a strange Cylinder-shaped purplish monstrosity that rolls down all in its path. Attacking the creature with edged weapons just creates smaller disc shaped versions of the ooze, that will be reabsorbed back into the parent creature.
