Parry, Riposte, Electrocute: Magus Options (Part 3)

Artist: Odilon Redon

Shadowsoul

A shadowsoul learns to imbue his or her own shadow with arcane energy, creating a quasi-real companion and ally.

Class Skills: The shadowsoul adds Stealth to the list of class skills in addition to the normal magus class skills.

Shadowsoul Copy (Su): At 2nd level, the shadowsoul can use a swift action to sacrifice a prepared level 1 or higher illusion spell to manifest a quasi-real shadow copy of the shadowsoul. The copy continually roils around and through the magus, occupying the same space and moving with him or her. The copy does not hinder the shadowsoul, allies, or foes from detecting, attacking, and otherwise interacting with the magus. The copy can complete the somatic components of spells for the shadowsoul, effectively granting an additional free hand. The shadowsoul still suffers the –2 penalty to attack rolls when using his or her copy to cast a spell while using spells in combat. The copy lasts for a number of rounds equal to 2 + twice the level of the spell sacrificed. This ability replaces spellstrike.

Shadowsoul Arcana: A shadowsoul gains access to the following magus arcana. He or she cannot select any arcana more than once.

Pool-Sourced Shadow (Su): Instead of sacrificing a prepared spell to create the shadowsoul copy, the shadowsoul can spend points from his or her arcane pool to do so. A copy created this way lasts for a number of rounds equal to 2 + the number of arcane pool points spent and has an enhancement bonus equal to the number of arcane pool points spent.

Shadow Cloak (Su): The shadowsoul copy allows the shadowsoul to use the Stealth skill even while being observed. The shadowsoul must be at least 12th level and have the arcane cloak** arcana before taking this arcana.

Wings of Shadow (Su): As a swift action, the shadowsoul can expend an additional round of his or her shadowsoul copy to sprout wings of shadow. These wings grant the magus a fly speed of 60 ft. with average maneuverability.

Shadowstrike (Su): At 4th level, the shadowsoul gains the ability to make a slam attack with the shadow copy, using the magus’s natural reach and dealing 1d4 + the magus’s Intelligence modifier damage. This attack functions as a primary natural attack with an enhancement bonus equal to the spell sacrificed to create the shadowsoul copy (maximum +5). Whenever the shadowsoul casts a spell with a range of “touch” from the magus spell list, he or she can deliver the spell through shadowstrike. Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, the magus can make one free melee attack with shadowstrike (at the shadowsoul’s highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this shadowstrike deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell. If the shadowsoul makes this attack in concert with spell combat, this melee attack takes all the penalties accrued by spell combat melee attacks. This attack uses the shadowstrike’s critical range but the spell effect only deals ×2 damage on a successful critical hit, while the shadowstrike uses its own critical modifier. At 11th level, the shadowstrike’s reach increases by 5 feet and its damage increases to 1d6. This ability replaces spell recall and improved spell recall.

Magus Arcana: The following arcana complement the shadowsoul: arcane cloak**, ghost blade**, pool-sourced shadow, shadow cloak, wings of shadow.
