Blood of the Gods Groups

Circe Invidiosa by John William WaterhouseUntil Deep Magic comes out, James Eder continues to provide us with groups and more to help satisfy our craving for magic. Take a look…

The Divine Right

In society, it is often the case that there is a ruling class, a normal class, and… well, a low class. Some individuals out there believe that they have a higher purpose in the world. Literally descended from the gods of the world (which faction depends on the setting of the campaign and their place in it), the Divine Right seek to supplant secular rule with religious. In the case of the gods of good being the focus, this is the creation of a church-run state with the godlings at the helm. If it’s a group of evil deities instead, well, it’s pretty much the same thing, but with more blood sacrifices and religious overtones to the evil state. Neutral godlings mostly avoid this sort of thing because they’re more likely to seek harmony and cooperation than outright conquest and rule, but it does happen from time to time, particularly if they feel they have no other options.

The Church of Camiel

Camiel is a young(-ish) godling, and the head of a church recently established in her name. Camiel possesses the lineage domains of Purity and Lust, and the contradiction isn’t particularly lost on her followers, nor the fact that she possesses the Divine Traits of Legendary Beauty and Paramortal*. However, her traits seem to alternate with the passage of time; by day her Purity seems to be stronger, and by night her Lust, with the overall result of her being neutral good but likely to sway towards law or chaos depending on what time it is. Camiel’s church is also dedicated to ritualistic blood magic, where her own blood is used for ceremonies that both inflame and calm passions. The stated goal of this particular godling is for marriages to be happy and interesting, but for her followers to be righteous and honorable in their dealings with others. Those who agree with her ideals are always welcome in the beautiful temples her faithful have built, and there’s always work that needs doing for those in search of a bit of coin.

The Drinkers of Arcana

Not every godling is a legendary warrior, and not every follower is truly devoted. Such is the unfortunate fate of Mandoriad, a godling held captive by a church of insane followers. His Divine Trait of Mystic Inheritance* is even more flat-out magical than usual, because it’s for the Arcane Bloodline of sorcerers, and he possesses both the Arcane and Divine lineage domains. In effect, he’s a holy fountain of pure magical energy, and that’s exactly the way his followers use him. His blood is drawn on a regular basis for rituals that tap into it to grant excess power to his followers while he’s trapped, unable to escape on his own. Of course, every godling has a divine parent, and not all of them are content to watch their child suffer when there’s a convenient team of adventurers around to direct toward helping out.
