Fistful of Lead: Gelatinous Cubed

gelatinous cube miniRecently, I was bidding on an iconic monster mini on eBay when I came up with a homebrew alternative:

Ingredients

  • Knox gelatin
  • Cooking oil spray
  • Square mold
  • Victim miniature

Directions

Coat the inside of the mold lightly with cooking oil spray. This will aid in the extraction of the Monster later on. Add the gelatin to very hot water and mix thoroughly until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Insert the victim miniature and chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours. When it has set, gently shake out of the mold and clean the vegetable oil off with a paper towel…

Now, this mini won’t last forever, but it should last for an entire gaming session.

  1. I think a little green, blue, or red food coloring would also be a good touch.

Especially if you need to track HP for multiple cubes in a gelatinous traffic jam…

  2. Alternately, if you wanted a permanent one just go where the sell model train supplies and pick up a bottle of clear liquid resin (the kind they use for making waterfalls etc.) and pour into a mold. You will lose the victim model so I wouldn’t use your favorite mini for this.

  3. Andrea "never name your character Phoenix" Mc

(which is to say that this is awesome and inspiring, and it’s probably a good thing I’m not home right now, because making cubes is probably more fun than what I should be doing)
