The six talismans monk, an archetype for the monk class detailed in New Paths #5: The Expanded Monk and Ninja, introduced a monk that utilizes ki-infused paper talismans in combat to damage, bind, or seal away opponents. These feats present new options for the six talismans monk, broadening the possible application of paper talismans.
Greater Fifth Seal of Emerald Barriers
Using paper talismans as anchors, you can ward an area with a shimmering emerald barrier that completely blocks all extradimensional travel.
Prerequisites: Paper talisman class feature, monk level 15th
Benefit: As a standard action, by spending 4 points from your ki pool, you can scatter 4 of your paper talismans around you—at each cardinal point—to create a dimensional lock centered on you with a caster level equal to your monk level.
Greater Seventh Seal of Cogs and Carpentry
You have trained to seal and bind constructs with your paper talismans.
Prerequisites: Paper talisman class feature, Seventh Seal of Cogs and Carpentry
Benefit: Your paper talismans affect constructs as if they were living creatures, even if they are mindless (though abilities that affect only humanoids still have no effect upon constructs).
Special: By spending an additional 2 points from your ki pool, as a free action when creating a paper talisman, your paper talisman can affect constructs regardless of any magic immunity they may have.
Seventh Seal of Cogs and Carpentry
You can alter your ki-infused paper talismans to affect non-organic matter.
Prerequisites: Paper talisman class feature, ki pool class feature
Benefit: You gain 1 additional use of your paper talisman ability per day. Additionally, you may spend 1 point from your ki pool as a free action to modify the next paper talisman you create. Instead of dealing damage, the paper talisman functions as an arcane lock spell with a caster level equal to your monk level. If the object does not have a lock, your paper talisman becomes the lock.
Swift Talismans
You can create talismans quickly enough to throw more than one in a single round.
Prerequisites: Paper talisman class feature, base attack bonus +6
Benefit: You can prepare and throw additional talismans as a full-round action if your base attack bonus is high enough to grant additional attacks. This functions just like a full-attack with a ranged weapon.
Special: Paper talismans are considered monk weapons and can be used in conjunction with flurry of blows. A monk may take this as a bonus feat at 10th level.
Talisman Focus
You excel at attaching your paper talismans.
Prerequisites: Paper talisman class feature
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to all attack rolls you make using a paper talisman. Treat half your levels in classes other than monk as monk levels for determining effects you can apply to a target of your paper talismans as per the paper talisman class feature and the number of times you may use your paper talisman class feature.
Monk – Gambit archetype
Nice. The talisman monk needs more support.
I would gladly see a whole New Path dedicated to it. Some of the talisman mechanics need to be clarified (like can it be burned off?).
Some magic items (like various magical papers and inks) wuld be welcomed.
Feats are great, but a character can take just a few over his adventuring career. Maybe more class features or more flexibility for them would be nice. Like why just fire damage? Why not let the player be able to choose if another type of elemental damage could be done at creation of the character?
