RiverBank is still over a season away, so before the hullabaloo begins and begets, let’s peek in on the summertime activities in the River Bank & Environs. It’s no time for lying down! Except for all the hammocks.

Summer has started, and the Animals of the River Bank are at their busiest: boating, fishing, picnicking, lying about in hammocks, and brushing up their poetry-writing. The twenty-third of June is the annual Parlement of the Birds, a medieval gathering when the Birds of the woodlands and meadows once gathered to settle legal questions. That may once have been true, but these days, it’s a lot more like a day-long party, where local Animals share the traditions specific to their sorts with booths, games, and authentic treats.

This year is especially exciting, because Peder Norgaard, the Duck, has promised to tell everyone’s future using runes from his Danish homeland. It is harmless fun, he says, something all Ducklings do at birthday parties and such. But Madame Anthemia, the Bat, is not pleased: everyone should know that she is the only person qualified to tell fortunes on the River Bank. She has taken to foretelling that this Parlement will end in Disaster and DOOOOM. And no one wants to miss that!
