We’re three weeks into a new year, resolutions are falling like they failed their DEX saves, and hey, speaking of rolling for saves, isn’t it time for new dice?
Trick question! It’s always time for new dice. Check out what we found when looking around for cool dice and dice-related gifts!
Feeling Retro?
A dice set inspired by retro video game pixel art, These dice will surely summon the warm nostalgia of anyone who sat on their living room carpet trying to save Princess Zelda or save the world in one of the original Final Fantasy games. My favorite is the d20, with a little heart for the 20 and a “GAME OVER” skull for the one. That about sums up how we all feel about rolling that natural 1 in a clutch saving throw.
While the complete set of these dice can get expensive, just having the d20 would supply the nostalgic vibes.
Price: $19.08 (single d20) or $67.78 (for complete set). Etsy, URWizardsDice
Explore the mystery . . . .
Like exploring an ancient temple or wandering around a new port city in a roleplaying game, gamers love discovering the unknown. Kraken Dice offers Mystery Dice Sets at a great price. You leave the exact contents up to the whims of fate (or the person in the warehouse), but the price is right and you get a free thrill of mystery thrown in! You can even buy these by the pound if you’re trying to work up a collection.
Even better, Kraken Dice offers a free RPG mini with purchases over $20.00, so you’ve got someone to invest all those rolls in.
Price: $6.00 (Single set) or $69.95 (Full pound of dice). Kraken Dice
Dice that light up the table!
I knew I wanted dice that light up, but I wanted to ensure that they showed they were made of suitable materials and I could read them in use quickly. I found a dice set that met all my criteria.
This set comes with a charging chase and a glowing duration of six hours (the glowing only happens when the dice are rolled or have any collision impact). This set would be great for any themed session with a grittier or gothic horror game, lighting up with each roll!
Price: $29.99. Amazon, Retailer ZHOORQI
Splitting ability checks with wooden dice!
While dice have long been made of various materials, metal and precious gems have been the most desirable. While I love my metal dice set, I avoid using them to prevent dents on any table I play on.
These dice are a little different. They’re made from wood, which gives a natural feel and makes a pleasurable sound when rolling across the table. Most wooden dice tended to be more expensive, but this set offers an extensive list of color options and won’t completely break the bank. This seven-piece dice set has highly visible numbers and the dice are made of rigid wooden material that is durable for the many rolls.

Kobold’s own Tome of Beasts 3 dice
Call us biased, but we think these are pretty sweet. We just couldn’t discuss fantastic new dice without listing our own! For this post, we’ve listed our Tome of Beasts 3 dice set, a beautiful set of seven high-quality acrylic dice featuring engraved icons inspired by the bone lord monster from Tome of Beasts 3.
Also, make sure to check out the December Gift Guide for more information on the Deep Magic 2 Dice! They are extra sparkly with nice, sharp edges for a more precise roll.
Price: $19.99. Kobold Press

Help for the forever gamemaster
While everyone at the table can enjoy rolling new dice, even more options await those who run games. Various sets of dice out there are designed to spark creativity in game masters who are hard at work prepping for the next adventure. These Scrying Stones are seven dice to help generate NPCs, weather conditions, locations, dungeon themes, and more.
Price: $19.99. Amazon, Stratagem Store
Dice towers for players, too!
Dice towers tend to be more of a GM or host accessory since they’re bulky and take up space at the table. This hardwood dice tower however, is much more compact. It’s large enough to hold one set of dice and folds over to care for and store your dice in transit. The shorter height of the tower also means less waiting for your dice results!
Price: $29.00 ($42.00 with engraving). Etsy, PraetorandRifts

You can’t roll this one, but bear with me. This wooden lamp illuminates your walls with numbers! It comes in various colors and can add a whole experience when trying to roll big!
