Fear the Wrath of the Abolish!
In the ancient past, aboleths empowered a people of the coastal region of the Western Ocean to found the island nation of Ankeshel. There, the Ankeshelians developed the complex science-magic known as vril, but over time they became increasingly discontent and rebelled against their abolish overlords, using their vril technology to overthrow their oppressors. They killed many of the aboleths while those remaining fled to the oceanic depths to lick their wounds.
One of the overlords they killed was the Argent King, a primeval aboleth of terrible power. But such a being can never truly be destroyed.
Ankeshel fell into the sea, and the Argent King languished for millennia in limbo, a disembodied spirit beyond the veil. His only company was the increasingly paranoid voice in his head. While gone, civilization grew up near the ruins of ancient Ankeshel. The Argent King has recently reformed and returned to the region his people once ruled, taking up residence in his ancestral home, an underwater fortress known as the Argent Sanctum.
Unaware of the aeons that have passed since his destruction, he believes the present-day residents of Cassadega are the Ankeshelians who defeated his people and destroyed his body…. Vengeance will be sweet.
This underwater adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four to six 7th-level characters. It can serve as a sequel to Lair 63: Edge of the Abyss and Warlock Lair
54: The Legend of Beacon Rock, though it can easily stand on its own. It includes full details for the Argent Sanctum, as well as the vril exoframe magical item. Designed by Paul Scofield, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Phil Stone and Dean Spencer.
