Description
I will light a beacon bright enough to reach the very edge of our world. Every creature will see our greatest hope—the return of the elves.
Tarrini, a small border town between Valera and Triolo, has been a reluctant addition to the Valeran territories. A resentment toward the Valeran rulership simmers, and a fully equipped military garrison is stationed there indefinitely. Several ruined elven towers persist in the hills around the town, and it is there, in one such tower, that the Returners lurk and plot.
A short adventure for 5th Edition heroes of 4th and 5th level, written by Jon Sawatsky and with cartography by Dyson Logos.
Gaetan Voyer-Perrault –
This adventure has a good core idea. “The Beacon” is a useful long-term plot device, of course the adventure is centered around killing its owner, so that may need to be tweaked. There is a neat trap in the first room and some “on-flavor” creatures.
The cover art (as with most of these Warlock offerings) is excellent.
The weakness of this adventure is really a lack of word count. The Lair is effectively 2.5 pages of text (including the background) and then an entire page dedicated to reprinting the Azza Gremlin. The monster is already open content in the Tome of Beasts.
In exchange for that monster we miss out of other things that could have been here:
– Block text for the rooms
– Customizations on the NPCs (especially the Banshee)
– Extra post-adventure hooks
The other knock against this is that it kind of reminds me of “Clockwork Tower” from “Book of Lairs” featuring a bunch of Azza Gremlins in a tower.
