Description

Back From the Dead, with a Mission

Erasmus the Black was a fierce pirate captain, infamous for his daring feats and his many scandalous affairs with high-ranking officials. He sailed the Middle Sea and built a secret base along the rugged shoreline north of Gallia’s Cove, and he plundered rich merchant vessels for years. But all good things end, especially for pirates.

One sunny day, a band of corsairs hired by a jealous spouse discovered the captain’s hidden refuge, slaughtered his crew and sank his ship, the Lazy Hawk. They dragged the pirate captain before the authorities in Triolo—and after a speedy trial, those authorities executed Erasmus for his misdeeds and dumped his body in the Middle Sea.

This should have been the end of it, but miraculously, Erasmus awoke in the bed of one of his lovers a few days later, raised from the dead by a cleric. Happy to be given a second chance, Erasmus began his new life as an honest sea merchant, financed by his paramour.

Erasmus still feels deep remorse over the death of his crew and wishes to return to his old base and build a shrine there honoring their memory. Knowing that his old lair may be newly occupied and dangerous, he hires the PCs to travel with him and protect him from what terrors they might find there…
