Nick Alldridge –
14 mini adventurers that will slot into a variety of campaigns. Clear maps each with a distinct style that captures their settings and themes very well. The monster art is reprinted from the Tomb of Beasts II but the colours here pop a bit more on the glossy paper. The font is very clear and easy to read (my eyes are not as young as they were but I had no issues at all). The format for each adventure follows the same logical pattern of Title (describing the intended party level, 1st to 15th level, and size which is 4-5 characters for all the adventures) Adventure Background, sample Adventure Hooks, a brief introduction to the scene and then a series of entries for each map location (average of around 10-12 for each adventure) finishing with a short Conclusion. Philip Larwood and Jeff Lee have done a good job of creating memorable settings that each feel different and internally consistent. This will save DMs prep time and introduce the fantastic monsters from ToB II. I would like to see some scenarios for smaller groups as often I want to slide in diversions when some of my players are absent and we are down to 2 or 3 players. You could re-balance these encounters of course but with last minute drop outs it would nice to have a book to pick up and play with a small group. This won’t do that but if you have a good sized group and very little time to prepare it is absolutely excellent and fully worth the cost.
