Callum Gainsborough –
I’ve been running these for the last few weeks and managed to get to the level 3 adventures.
Pros:
The pre-setup journals and drawings on foundry are nice.
Maps have tokens set up for encounters
Some of the characters are quite fun
The players have had fun playing them
Cons:
It doesn’t include all the required maps, just the main area
Some of the maps are too small for the encounter and don’t provide any movement room for players
Quest rewards are lacking
Stories generally leave a lot to be desired
Some stories end on an open note rather than a closed one like it will start its own story arc.
Stories are rather closed, and don’t leave a lot of room for players to add their own flare without the DM putting effort in to rewrite a segment which defeats the point of premade oneshots.
Foundry maps are just maps and walls, with no sounds, foreground, or zones, for something paid I would expect more, especially for the price.
Too many low leveled adventures compared to high-level ones, you end up doing 3 or 4 level 1 adventure then only one at level 14 (I go by the minimum recommended level because the party is pretty competent)
They’re fairly short usually an hour, maybe two, but I usually get through two in a 3-4 hour session.
In summary, they’re okay, I could definitely do better with time, but I bought these expecting something high quality but they’re just kinda average. We are hoping the later ones get better, maybe I will start caring less about the exact adventure scenarios and just wing them more. tldr, the content was acceptable, but the value was not there. Hopefully the later ones are better.
What I wanted was some generic scenarios where I could drop players and let them blow off some steam and creativity, for example dropping them in a scenario where they are expecting a bandit raid, and they have x hours and x supplies and have to prepare to fight, negotiate, or trick their way to victory.
What I got was, here’s a 3 room “puzzle” dungeon with zombies, which is then rewarded with some useless magic item, then having the oneshot notes tell me the players should find out why there was no treasure. Even I felt cheated by the end of it! (Though that was the worst one in our experience, we enjoyed most of the others)
