The encounter generation strategy you know and love from Kobold+ Fight Club. It calculates the experience target appropriate for the party on the selected difficulty, picks a random encounter template, tries to fill that template with CR appropriate monsters.
MCDM's book, Flee, Mortals! contains a set of rules for generating encounters, specialized for the book's monsters. It works similar to the classic K+FC strategy, but each character and their level contribute to a total CR budget, instead of relying on XP. You can read more about this on page 16 in the book.
