Description

A Murder of New 5th Edition Monsters!

WIZARD: “It says it used to be a dragon of the outer darkness…”
FIGHTER: “What does that even mean? Used to be? What is it now? Does anyone else speak Draconic?”
WIZARD: “It says you are not sufficiently respectful to its dragon nature. It says… Run?”
FIGHTER: “Run? In this armor?”
DM: “
FWOOOOSH!”

Inside Tome of Beasts 2, you’ll find monsters for almost every location your heroes might journey: from farmlands to forests, dungeons to deserts, and bustling cities to fantastical planar realms—with an emphasis on dungeons and the underworld!

Tome of Beasts 2 brings you more than 400 new monsters including:

  • Angelic enforcers and avalanche screamers
  • Imperial dragons and swordbreaker skeletons
  • Kami and clockwork tigers
  • Void drakes and zombie dragons
  • Death vultures and demon lords
  • Swamp nagas and magma octopuses
  • Chameleon hydras and shriekbats
  • Walled horrors and wraith bears!

Absolutely amazing. I loved the first Tome of Beasts and the Creature Codex even more, but ToB2 may actually be my favorite Kobold Press product. So many engaging, creative, and stylish monsters. I was very happy to see many of the illustrations were done by Jess Jackdaw as well – an amazingly talented artist who has a very entertaining YouTube channel.

Great art and inspiring monsters! The hardcover has textured paper where as the pocket edition (soft cover) has glossy paper. Better CR match up to official material.

Each new monster manual gets better and more creative.

A lot of smoke and sizzle, no real heat. Feels like Creature of the Moment after the ideas are all gone (alligator combined with a shark with extra legs and a mouth in its stomach.. wowwww. Or a magical goat made of plants.. countless examples). Please, focus more on the myth and the legend, of actually building a Legendarium instead of another collection of flavors of the moment and the monster equivalent of adlibs (give me 3 animals, an environmental effect and a monster classification. Meanwhile, there’s this massive series of Midgard world-books and the barest minimum is done to tie these monsters to these lands, let alone create myths, legends and story hooks. I get that people might by these books without buying other Midgard products, so maybe don’t alienate them. I’m from the other school: Wow them with your worldbuilding integration, amaze with your deep dive content, watch DM’s drool in anticipation at the hooks, the myths and legends. Never apologize or look like you might be apologizing for the thing you created. Then watch as they buy your other products. Let your content do the work for you. See Coville’s monster manual ‘Flee Humans’ for real world examples. I KNOW the people creating Midgard content can do this, they’ve done it already in other products.
