ENnies 2014 Nominations Announced

ENnies_LogoTheĀ annual ENnie Awards have posted their list of nominations plus their Judges’ Spotlight awards — and the kobolds are in the running!

I’m honored and delighted to see the Kobold Guide to Magic and the Midgard Bestiary: 13th Age Compatible Edition nominated. It’s always gratifying to have a book nominated that’s designed to bring new professionals into the industry; and the Bestiary is the firstĀ 13th Age title we’ve done for that system, so clearly we’re on to something there.

I’m also very pleasedĀ that Deep Magic is aĀ 2014 Judgesā€™ Spotlight Winner! Congrats to all the nominees this year. Kobold Press is in great company and the fWolfgang Baur, Eccentric Game Designerield looks strong.

I’d like to thankĀ all those who contributed their wonderful work to Kobold Press this year, and special thanks go to the fans, who continue to support our efforts to bring you fun games to play.

Onward!

  1. Oh, and if 100 people comment on this post, I’ll get a new picture without the helmet. Or heck, might just wear the policeman’s helmet to the ENnies ceremony this year.

  2. Congratulations on the nominations! I know I’ll be voting for Kobold Press this year.

Personally, I’m in favor of you wearing the helmet to the ENnies.

  3. At risk of running up the comment count myself, I guess I should say, not just 1 person commenting over and over.

Though yes, the thought did cross my mind that challenges on the Internet are sometimes foolish things. :)

  4. I’m confident that many people will want to congratulate the Kobolds on their ENnie nominations. I have spread the word…

  5. I post here in hopes that WB will wear the helmet to the Ennies. Also–congratulations are due.

I have a lot more to say fawtly-wise, which is to say I have nothing to contribute, I can post on the job, and I’m about to spam the living crap out of this comment thread.

Lastly, when you say “not just 1 person commenting over and over” does “person” denote the actual flesh, or do our headmates count? The reason being that I know that the not only mine, but also the fleshes of Kirk Moore, Mike Welham, Flash XXX all house a number of actual “persons”.

  6. Caso en la convenciĆ³n!!! Y muchas felicidades por las nominaciones y el Spotlight win!

    Kuddos for the Kobolds!!!

  7. Dear ENnie Nominee,

Congratulations on your nomination! As the National RPG Examiner I’m happy to interview any of the nominees to get the word out about their product during the voting process. Please answer any or all of the following questions:

    * Tell us about your nominated products/site.

    * What products will you be producing for the remainder of this year?
    * Have you participated in any recent Kickstarters? Are there any upcoming Kickstarters on the horizon?
    * Congratulations on working on Tyranny of Dragons. How did Wizards approach you?
    * What can players expect from Hoard of the Dragon Queen and The Rise of Tiamat all about? What about DMs?
    * What makes a successful 5th Edition adventure?
    * What’s the secret to designing an adventure path?
    * What’s your opnion on including anachronistic elements in an adventure?
    * Will you be working on any future collaborations with Wizards?
    * Will you be at Gen Con? Where? Will any new products debut at Gen Con?
    * Where can we find out more about your company online?
    * Anything else you’d like to share?

Please send all answers to [email protected]. Thank you for the opportunity!

  8. Congratulations Wolfgang and Kobold Press on your Ennie Nominations!

P.S. I vote for you to where the helmet to the awards presentation.

  9. For the Ennies, ditch the helmet for the Deep Magic fire mage robes …

    And heartfelt congratulations. All well-deserved.

  10. It’s a trap! The 100th reply will damage someones monitor in a way that will display that picture every 5th frame…..

    I love traps…..hehe

  11. Only a lousy hundred comments. Or is that 100 peeps each with their own post? Because we could do 100 in our sleep.

  12. Scott Hungerford

“Surely the fact that a uniformed police officer is wearing his hair below his collar will make him no less identifiable as a policeman.” : )

  13. Thrilled to see ASH LAW and Wade Rockett’s work recognized for the Midgard Bestiary for 13th Age. Very proud of them both. Of course they started based on the excellent work for the Pathfinder and 4e versions. Hmm – perhaps I should see if there is another good monster to convert like I did with the Dragonleaf Tree…

And the Overlord definitely needs a funny hat for the award ceremony.

  14. I get where wearing a hat comes from, but where does the idea for a police man’s hat come from? Is there a joke I’m missing or did you just get one you want to use, or what?

  15. A magical policeman’s hat that temporarily gives a bonus +2 to any reaction based rolls when interacting with NPCs?

  16. Lewis, at risk of adding to the total number of comments, the idea of a policeman’s helmet comes from the Jeeves & Wooster novels by P.G. Wodehouse (and later TV shows with Fry & Laurie).

I’m rather fond of the novels, and they distill a certain era of British-ness down into a few great stories and characters.

That *particular* helmet I got in Canada, where I took part judging a costume contest. Somewhat long story, but ever since I trot out the helmet for special occasions. Most recently, I got to take it to NorWesCon, where I was honored to be on a panel about Wodehouse with Michael Moorcock. Mr. Moorcock read the stories when they first appeared in British magazines in the 30 and 40s.

TL/DR: Blame the Brits for the helmet. :)
